There are no universal checklists to bear in mind when taking a test drive. However, there are some tips that can make your life a little easier. What tips? We thought you'd never ask. Our Utica, NY Leadcar Buick GMC Utica compiled a short list of test drive tips for your edification.

The Three Cs and M

Before the test drive, check the Three Cs and M:

  • Color
  • Child seat
  • Cargo
  • Measurements

Does the vehicle's in-person color match what you see in photos? If the differences are glaring, ask why. If you use a child seat, bring it to the test drive to confirm that it fits the test drive model. Take measurements of the cabin and cargo space. Confirm that these measurements meet or exceed your requirements for gear, luggage, shopping, etc.

It's What's on the Inside

Gauge the ease of entering and exiting the car. Can you do so without banging your head? Experiment with driving and seating positions, assessing room for legs, elbows, and head. Do the windows afford maximum visibility to the directions? Lastly, are the gauges and controls easy to see and adjust? Over time, make more detailed checklists that correspond to specific features you need or want: dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable seats, tilting/telescoping steering wheel, etc.
